How Does PeerVault Car Parking in Udaipur Work for Visitors?

Quick take:

PeerVault is an online marketplace where Udaipur residents rent out spare driveways, garages and compound space. Visitors can reserve one for a minimum of a week, and a full refund is available if you cancel early enough. It suits week-long stays, not a quick overnight.

Three travellers, three different problems

Meera, from Ahmedabad, is driving down for a family wedding that runs six days. Her hotel is near Lake Pichola and has room for four cars, all already taken by the groom’s side.

Arjun, from Delhi, is staying a long weekend in a haveli in the old city. The haveli’s lane is too narrow for his SUV.

Sana, from Mumbai, is flying out of Udaipur for ten days and wants to leave her car somewhere safe rather than at the airport.

All three have the same question: where does the car go? Hotels with spare bays are one answer, public lots are another, and a third option is renting a private space from someone nearby. That third route is what PeerVault offers in Udaipur.

What PeerVault actually is

PeerVault is a platform run by an Indian company that connects “hosts” who have unused space with “renters” who need it. It began with household storage and also lists vehicles under a Car Storage category.

A host might be a family with an empty courtyard or a shopkeeper with room behind the store. PeerVault does not own any of these spaces. It lets people list and book them, and it processes the payments. Each host describes their own space, which is why two listings a street apart can feel very different.

How you would book, in practice

Here is how Meera’s search would go.

She opens the PeerVault app, picks Udaipur and switches on the Car Storage filter. She sees several listings and ignores the ones that are far from her hotel. Two catch her eye: a covered garage and an open compound with a gate.

She reads both descriptions, checks the access hours and sends the garage owner a question about whether a hatchback fits comfortably. After the reply, she submits a request for her dates.

The host has up to 24 hours to answer. If the host accepts, she can start using the space. If the host declines or doesn’t respond, the request lapses and her money is returned automatically.

On the first day, she photographs her car and the garage, notes the host’s phone number and walks to the hotel.

The part that catches people out: how long you must book

PeerVault’s listed terms are one week, two weeks or one month. There is no daily rate.

Applied to our three travellers :

  • Meera (six days): A one-week booking fits closely, with a day to spare.
  • Arjun (a long weekend): A week is longer than he needs. He would be paying for days he won’t use, so a hotel with parking or a public lot may serve him better.
  • Sana (ten days): A two-week booking covers her trip with room for a delayed flight.

If you take a monthly term, it renews every month. To stop it, you must cancel on the My Rentals page after collecting your car, and a message to the host does not count. Do it before the renewal date, because unused days within a month are not returned.

What happens if your plans change

Say Meera’s booking starts on the 20th.

  • If she cancels on the 10th, well ahead of the start, she receives everything back, including the service fee.
  • If she cancels within a day of the host approving her request, the result is the same, even if the start date is close.
  • If she cancels on the 18th, with less than three days left, she receives 80% of the space fee. The service fee is gone.

The practical lesson is to book once your dates are fairly settled, and to cancel early if they shift. PeerVault published these figures in section 7.10 of its Terms & Conditions, which were last edited in mid-2024, so check the live policy before you pay.

Is a reserved space better than the alternatives?

It depends on the trip, so here is a plain comparison.

Short sightseeing stops, such as City Palace or Fateh Sagar, rarely need a booking at all. A reserved space starts to make sense when the car will sit unused for days.

Six things to ask any host

These questions apply to any private parking arrangement, not just this one.

1. How do I get in, and can I collect the car at 6 a.m. or after midnight?

2. Is there a gate, a caretaker or a camera, or is the space simply open?

3. Will a car my size fit through the entrance, and can I turn around inside?

4. What does the listing price include once the service fee is added?

5. If something is scratched or damaged, what is the process?

6. Is there a number I can reach the host on if my phone has no data?

PeerVault’s terms make it clear that it connects people and takes payments, but is not an insurer. So check your own motor insurance, and think twice before handing over your keys, since the terms treat that as your own risk.

Making the rest of the trip easier

Once the car is tucked away, Udaipur works best on foot. The lanes around Jagdish Temple, the ghats and Bapu Bazaar are short walks from one another, and autos fill the gaps. If you’re arriving during the busy winter months, try to reach your parking space while it is still light, and save the host’s contact offline in case the signal drops between old buildings.

Short answers to common questions

Do I need to live in Udaipur to book?

No. Any adult with an account can book.

Can I park for one night?

Not through PeerVault’s standard terms, which start at one week.

Is it safe?

It depends on the space. Ask about security, then insure the car yourself.

Can I earn from my own space?

Yes. PeerVault has an “Add your Space” option for hosts, and spots near tourist areas, hospitals or transport links are likely to draw interest.

The bottom line

A pre-booked space won’t be right for every trip, but for visitors staying a week or longer it can remove the daily parking hunt. Look at the current listings for your dates, ask the host the questions above and read the cancellation terms before you pay.
